Track power switch

1/29/2014 1st blog

I have completed my bench work to a point. It seems like every time I go into the train room I think of something else I would like to do. I have recently come to the conclusion that I am going to enlarge the layout in two different directions. One will probably be a much larger yard for storage and maintenance. The other is smaller and looking like a lumber yard at this point.
Recently I have taken on another locomotive improvement. I have a Athearn F7A Bluebox that I am going to install a sound decoder and LEDs. My first decoder was from Loksound, (my first purchase from Loksound) and I have obviously received a defective one that has to be sent back for repair/replacement. I should have it in the mail by this weekend. In the mean time I purchased a Tsunami and temporarily installed it, but I smelled a burning, so I quickly removed the locomotive from power. Knowing from experience that the old BB motors seem to draw too much current I ordered some motor replacements for two of my BB units and truck assemblies for both as well. The old wheels do not have a good history for power pick up.

Hopefully tonight I will return to the layout and work on some more projects.
