First time in the train room for a while.

This has been taking up most of my free time lately. We are trying to plan a short trip soon to test the waters. We've been buying items for the camper in order to make the trip. One of my friends calls it ( railfan command central). I'm sure it will be used for trips to museums and such!
Here's the project I started before we went on vacation. Installing LEDs and Loksound in this SD60
I started putting some of these little trash can and dropped a wheel so I spent a lot of time on the floor until I found it.
My soon to be born grandson's crib!! Jk

OTD for 8/19/14

Some base coats for sky and wooded area were painted. I will go back and lighten it up and start the clouds.

Then the river bed has some attention. Oil dry, small gravel, and larger rocks were laid into place.

Longer static grasses were used next with a homemade static grass applicator.

OTD tonight

Tonight I ran my new BLI SD40-2. It runs really well and sounds great! A lot of detail also.

I also added another small section of fencing and another gate to the cement plant.

RV AC units

I decided to try and make some RV AC units mainly to just see if I could do it. So tonight I took 3 small pieces of thick styrene and glued them together. After the glue dried, I took my exact or knife and carved out the basic design and form of the ac unit.
After I got the rough shape done I started filing down the edges. Then came the sand paper and the more different files to make the ridges.

I think they maybe too tall, so more sanding to come.

Tomorrow I will add some final sanding and then paint.

Stay tuned!

Another DS64 installed for double cross-overs

I mounted the DS64 and just for the heck of it wired a double set 2 of tortoise machines to see if it would work. Thinking that only 1 per switch would work. It ran 2 at the same time with no problem. So I finished the mounting and wiring.
DS64 mounted under the deck and the terminal block installed.
Power wired in to the terminal block and track power wired in. I then programmed the DS64 for tortious machines operation.
In theory, I can now wire in 4 more switch machines meaning 2 more sets to this one DS64.  I will only have 2 more switch machine left and I may buy another DS64 for them and wire the lights in for the train station. I could then control the lights remotely too.

Work on a friends GP40

Here's the work I did on my friends FEC GP40-2. It's an Athearn Blue Box. I like the AC units installed by him on the rooftop. I looked for some myself and they are hard to find. So I think I will try to make some out of styrene. New Led's installed front and back, Digitrax DCC and sound installed. The locomotive runs good too. Although with most Blueboxes the motor is a little noisy.
He runs at slow speeds so it isn't an issue for him. He did a grea job on the weathering too!
